She later worked at Brookley Air Force Base as a civil service employee and afterwards at Naval Air Station Pensacola. She retired from the Navy Reserve as a lieutenant commander.
She had married Nov. 20, 1939, Thomas Cooper Van Antwerp (born May 3, 1904, died Jan. 6, 1994), modern architect, son of Garet Van Antwerp Jr. and Francis Elizabeth Lesesne Van Antwerp, but the marriage was later annulled and Cooper married Elizabeth Rencher.

Cooper Van Antwerp's brothers included Dr. Sydney Van Antwerp, who married Emily Staples, and Garet Van Antwerp III married Mary E. Pillans of 908 Government Street. Both 908 and 910 Government Street were built by Joel Abbot Roberts, who also built the Roberts-Staples house on Old Shell Rd., the childhood home of Emily Staples Van Antwerp (later Mrs. William J. Hearin).
