Alice Elora Winchell was born at Sterling, Illinois, July 27, 1862, a daughter of Levi and the late Harriett Winn Winchell. When a child eight years old she moved to Kansas with her parents. Her girlhood was spent there, where she met and was united in marriage February 7, 1883, to Mr. John B. Vandruff. They resided there during their earlier married years, when she united with the Methodist Church in 1897, in which she was a faithful worker. In 1910 they moved to the San Luis Valley where they made their home until her recent illness, when she was compelled to leave on account of her health four months ago. Since that time she has been with friends and her daughter, Mrs. Oscar Burdette, Ponca City, Oklahoma. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, five daughters, Mrs. Oscar (Nancy) Burdette, Ponca City, Mrs. Effie (Dick) Carr, Moffat, Mrs. Lee (Emma) Anderson, Canon City, Colorado, Mrs. Arthur (Ethel) Biggs, Moffat Colo., Mrs. Clarence (Mary) Biggs, Moffat, Colo., and son Mr. Joe (Myrtle) Vandruff of Paonia, Colo., her father, Mr. Levi Winchell, two sisters and two brothers, sixteen grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
