Dr. Segrest, who served 18 years as city commissioner, died yesterday morning in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. He served as police and fire commissioner under the Lovenskiold administration and under the McCaughan administration he served as water and gas commissioner from 1937-43. He retired to his ranch in Live Oak County after completing the second term.

Dr. Segrest moved here from Claiborne County with his parents in 1896. The son of Dr. H. H. and Margaret Crews Segrest, he received his early education here and received his degree in dentistry from Vanderbilt University.

After his graduation, the younger Dr. Segrest joined his father in his dental practice at his office over the Corpus Christi National Bank. When Dr. D. A. Segrest retired in 1939 the office had been in operation 42 years.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Church of the Good Shepherd, Episcopalian. In his youth he was active with the Corpus Christi Kids, a baseball team composed of many men now prominent in the city's affairs.

The Old Segrest family home back of Perkins Department Store was demolished recently for a parking lot. Another early residence, at 907 Antelope, was recently demolished. Segrest Addition, near Memorial Hospital was named for his father and David Street was named for him.
