She was born Oct. 30, 1931, in Lewis, Colo., the daughter of Elder James Alfred Horn and Minnie Belle Atchley Horn.
Mrs. Adams was a member of the Oak Ridge Primitive Baptist Church. Her family and her church were very important to her. Her heart-felt kindness to others made lasting impressions and her selflessness extended to all those around her and warmed and enriched those lives she touched. She had an enthusiasm and spirit for life, always willing to try new experiences. Mrs. Adams also enjoyed traveling, gardening, bowling, quilting and walking and was an avid patron of Big Ed's Pizza.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Luckado, and brothers, Willie Earl, Doyle, Jodie, Roy Lee and Wilburn Horn.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Joseph N. Adams; daughters, Debra Jean Mashburn and husband Ronnie of Oak Ridge, Karen Allison and husband Lloyd of Clinton, and Shala Block and husband Clem of Oak Ridge; brother, Elder E. L. Horn and wife Vickie of Gaston, Ore.; sisters, Louise Scalzo and Bobbie Shackleford of Snohomish, Wash.; five grandchildren, Joseph David Mashburn and wife Sarah of Berea, Ky., Leslie Rene Wallace and husband John of Clinton, Christy Haynes and husband Todd of Wichita Falls, Texas, Miranda Louise Dill and husband Chris of Cookeville, and Lara Lynn Gaines of Knoxville; and great-grandchildren, Melena Haynes of Wichita Falls, Texas, Nicolette Finger of Knoxville, and Ava Reece Mashburn, due to make her arrival in February.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Drs. Whitley, Garton, Matisson and Dallas and the ICU nurses and 4West nurses for the care and compassion shown to Mrs. Adams.
Funeral services are Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007, at 8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary with Elders Kenneth Robbins and Marvin Smith officiating. Graveside services are Friday at 1 p.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
The family asks that any memorials be in the form of contributions to Oak Ridge Primitive Baptist Church, 1050 West Outer Drive, Oak Ridge, TN 37830, or a charity of choice.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary.
