Russell Oliver Dayton, 77, died August 15, 1984 of heart failure after a lingering illness.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 18. 1984 om the Cokeville LDS Chapel with Bishop Lowell Clark conducting the services. Family prayer was offered by Don Cozzons, NaDene Dana played the prelude and postlude, invocation and benediction were given by Jerre Holmes and Raymond T. Petersen. Brent Holden gave the obituary, a vocal duet "In the Garden" was sung by Max and Glenda Excell, John R. Petersen was the speaker and Tamara Dayton sang "The Lord's Prayer" Bishop Russell Thornock dedicated the grave. Pallbearers were nephews, Eddie Dayton, Doug Holden, Ron Roberts, Billy J. Holmes, Chad Roberts, Boyd Roberts: Honorary pallbearers were Brent Holden, Lynn Roberts and Mike Dayton. Interment was in the Cokeville Cemetery.
He was born June 23, 1907 in Dingle, Idaho to Alice Rebecca Bird and Marvin Moroni Dayton. He was the eldest of nine children.
He attended elementary school in Dingle, then moved to Cokeville
with his family where he attended high school and lived the remainder of his life.
On May 15, 1927 he married Flora Cozzens at Paris Idaho. To this union were born two sons, Russell G. of Cokeville and Donald R. of Rock Springs.
Russ was a member to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a charter member of the Cokeville Lions Club. Most of Russ's career was dedicated to highway and bridge construction and maintenance. He worked for the Lincoln County Department of Roads and Bridges for 37 years, frequently doing extra work to accommodate others. He retired in 1973. Russ was devoted to his family and always enjoyed having them visit him.
He is survived by his wife, flora, sons Russell and Donald, four brothers, Emford, Maruice, Willard and Edward all of Cokeville; two sisters; Donetta Roberts and Elvene Holden of Cokeville; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Delbert and a sister, Odella Holmes.
