He was born near Smickburg,Indiana County,Pennsylvania; a son of Samuel & Caroline Feltwell Beyer. This branch of the Beyer or Baer family are the descendents of Abraham Beyer,who came to Norristown, Montgomery County,Pennsylvania,in 1734,from Holland.

William F. Beyer was known as the oldest practicing Physican
in Punxsutawney,having practiced Medicine 56 years.

He attended the Dayton Academy in Armstrong County,Pennsylvania, and taught school in Armstrong & Indiana Counties for a few years.He studied Medicine in Plumville,Indiana County,with Dr. Christopher McEwen. He graduated from the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.In 1892 he spent five months in Philadelphia in Post Graduate study,taking up the diseases of the eye,in the Wills Eye Hospital. He came to Punxsutawney on 1 May 1879 and began his practice which he continued until his death this morning.He was also the surgeon for the Bell's Gap Railroad Company for 14 years.
He helped organize the first electric company in this part of the State and was president of the Jefferson Electric Light,Heat and Power Company for 23 years.

He was married to Miss Margaret Ann Mitchell in Punxsutawney
on 30 June 1880. Margaret died 10 October 1910.
They were the parents of these children:
~ Samuel Meigs Beyer,
~ Mary Eleanor Beyer,
~ Margaret Virginia Beyer.

He was later married to Miss Lois Passmore of Clearfield,
on 11 November 1921 .

He was a life member of the Odd Fellows ,an honorary member
of the Punxs'y Country Club ,a charter member of the Jefferson County Medical Society,the Pennsylvania Medical Society and the American Medical Society.And a member of the First M.E. Church of Punxsutawney.

He also served with the
Pennsylvania National Guard for five years.

He was survived by his widow,two daughters and one son:
~ Dr. S.M.Beyers of Punxs'y;
~ Mrs. John [Mary] Mahaffey of St.Petersburg,Florida;
~ Dr. Virginia Beyer of Sykesville,Maryland.
Two brothers and two sisters:
~ Joseph M. Beyer ;
~ John Harvey Beyer of Punxs'y;
~ Mrs. Maria Davis;
~ Miss Caroline Beyer of Oakland,California.
