HIS LIFE CRUSHED OUT BY A ROLLING LOG

James King, Well Known Farmer fo Near Houston Meets Awful Death Before the Very Eyes of His Three Sons.

SLIPS AND FALLS UNDER GREAT TIMER.

While Fastening Chain Around Tree Trunk Aged Man's Glove is Caught Death comes Before Aid Reaches His Side.

Houston, Feb 20 - James King, a well known farmer of near this place, met a horrible death this afternoon by having his life literally crushed out when a heavy saw log rolled entirely over his body. The tragic affair took place in view of the man's three sons who were powerless to help their father.

The younger men rushed to his assistance but the log had already passed over him. He died before medical aid could reach him. He was about 60 years of age.

This afternoon the unfortunate man with three of his sons, Richard, Henry, and George, was engaged in hauling heavy saw logs on what is known as teh Morrison farm several miles from Houston. The men were working on the hillside.

While King was endeavoring to fasten a chain around this particular log preparatory to moving it down the hill, a glove caught is the chain. The man was caught fast and was unable to either extricate his hand or pull loose the glove.

In his efforts to release himself King slipped on the light covering of snow. His falling started the log from its position. King was directly in its path and the huge tree trunk passed over his entire body and then rolled on down the hillside.

When King's sons reached his side the found him fearfully injured. Death was not instantaneous but was a question of only a short time.

James King purchased the old Morrison farm about five years ago and at that time brought his family from Buena Vista, Pa., to reside there.

He is survived by his wife and six children, Richard, Henry, George, Jesse, Mary and Margaret, all at home. He was a member of the United Presbyterian church.
