Nancy Jane Dean was born June 3, 1849 in a house that stood directly north of the president residence of her sister, Mrs. Eliza Helmick, on the old Dean farm, near Scipio. It was here she grew up to womanhood, at the age of eighteen, she was converted and joined the Hayden Baptist Church. She was married to James A. Milton in 1882. To them were born one child, Ella, who died in 1910. Mrs. Milton became a widow about one year after her marriage and has resided in Indianapolis for about thirty years. she had been poorly for some time and died in the Hospital in Indianapolis April 10, 1916, at the age of sixty six years, ten months and seven days. She lived and died in implicit faith and confidence in God. She leaves to mourn her death four sisters, and two brothers, Mrs.Elizabeth Littell, of near Scipio, Indi., Mrs. Ella Sutton Nashville, Ind.; Mrs. Eliza Helmich, Scipio, Ind.; Mrs. Rettie Coffman, Lawton, Oklahoma; J.T. Dean, Charlton, Iowa; and R.J. Dean, Chester Nebraska. The funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon, April 13th 1916 at the residence of her sister, Mrs. E. Helmich, conducted by the Rev. W.D. Cole, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, Scipio. Interment in the family cemetery on the old Dean farm.
