First child of Dr Henry Wythe Tabb and Martha Tompkins.

Siblings:
Sally Van Bibber Tabb 1831–1897
Harriet Wythe Tabb 1833–1840
Henry Wythe Tabb Jr 1835–1840
Lucia Lucy Carter Tabb 1838–1889

Half Siblings:
Henry Adams Tabb 1848–1917
Cynthia Claxton Tabb 1850–1921
Wythe Tabb 1852–1871
Martha Tabb 1854–1855
Susan Vanderpoel Tabb 1856–1932

From Dr Wythe's dairy:
I had hoped that my cup of sorrow and affliction had been drained, but another severe pang awaited me on the afternoon of the first of August 1859, my daughter Mary Eliza in perfect health in descending the front stairs either the heel of her shoe caught in the step or the toe of her shoe in her hoops and she fell head foremost causing a violent concussion of the brain. I was sitting in the dining room and hearing the dreadful fall hastened to the spot. Imagine my surprise and horror upon finding my dear daughter lying at the bottom of the steps insensible. Assistance being speedily procured we bore her to my chamber, where she remained all the time nearly in a state of complete insensibility until about seven o'clock when she expired. The only words she spoke were "My dear father can you do nothing for me" or words to that effect, such was the untimely end of my dear first born daughter. No one can tell how I have missed her, the music of her almost superhuman voice will never cease to be fresh in my memory, though unacquainted with the science of music, her singing was more delightful to me than any vocal or instrumental music that I have ever heard, and I can safely say that I have never enjoyed any since that interested me, indeed it is positively distasteful to me. All these ad bereavements have saddened my mind to an almost unsupportable degree.

The ghost of Mary Eliza Tabb is said to appear occasionally at the impressive Federal-style mansion on the banks of the North River. Miss Tabb died after falling down the curving staircase in the hallway, and her satin slippers are on display in the front hall.

John Lennon and Yoko Ono were the owners at one time of Auburn Plantation in the 1970's, built in 1824.
