Alfred Foss, a resident of Elmwood Nursing Home at Onawa, Iowa, since 1967 passed away there on January 17, 1979, following a lengthy illness. At the time of his death he was 86 years of age.

The son of Ole and Julia Amundson Foss, he was born at Soldier, Iowa on June 22, 1892. He spent most of his lifetime in the Soldier area and was employed as a farm laborer. During World War I he served in the army. He was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church and the Soldier American Legion Post No. 462.

Survivors are his sister, Mrs. Elma Ryan of Omaha, Neb., and two brothers, Otto of Earling, Iowa and Oscar of Onawa. There are a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Carl, Martin, and Henry, and four sisters, Ovedia, Nettie, Emma, and Josie.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 19, 1979, at the Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier, Iowa with Pastor William Carter officiating. The organist was Mrs. Harry Andersen and she played "Softly and Tenderly".

Bearers were Cleo E. Ping, Bernard Thoreson, Milton Amunson, Stanley Holt, Jim Longlee, and Tim Comfort.

Interment was in the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery, Soldier, with Military services by Soldier Legion Post No. 462, John Dickinson, Commander.
