Daughter of Ida Ballard and David Luster Haynes, Mary Geneva Haynes was born 13 Dec 1881 near the small town of Useful, Osage County, MO. Mary's mother passed away only two days into the new year of 1882. The infant Mary was without a mother and the husband and father, David, was now a widower. Three years later, David Haynes married Laura Renfro and Mary grew up in this household with her father, her step-mother, and her half brothers and sisters. Mary Haynes married William Hefele in Clayton, St Louis, MO, and their two daughters were present in the Hefele, St. Louis, household in 1910. The two daughters were Marjorie Viola and Ida E. "Della."
William Hefele died in 1923. By 1940 Mary Hefele had apparently married again: Her father, David Haynes, died 03 Jul 1940 and she was referred to in his obituary as Mrs. Swank. David Haynes' obituary was courtesy of Haynes family researcher, Donna Crawley. Mrs. Swank's MO death certificate listed her usual residence as 148 Chicago, Kirkwood. Informant was her daughter, Mrs. Marjorie V. Parsons.

SWANK, MARY GENEVA (nee Hefele) [nee Haynes], Mon., May 24, 1971, beloved mother of Marjorie V. Parsons and Della E. Follen of Bourbon, Mo., dear sister of Mrs. Gussie Jett of Bland, Mo., dear mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Swank at the BOPP Chapel, 10610 Manchester rd., Kirkwood. Funeral Thurs., 10 a.m. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery.
