Ida Ballard was born in MO and probably grew up around the town of Useful in Osage County. On Christmas Day of 1879, she married David Luster Haynes. This young couple appeared on the 1880 Osage County census in Crawford Twp., where David Haynes was a farmer. On 13 Dec 1881, Ida gave birth to their daughter, Mary Geneva. Mary would never know her mother for Ida passed away only two days into the new year of 1882. Mrs. Haynes apparently died from complications of childbirth approximately 20 days after the birth of her child. Ballard family record lists Ida Haynes' death on January 4, 1882.

Ida Ballard was the daughter of James M. Ballard born VA and Susan Ann Hensley born MO. Parents and younger brothers and sister of Ida (Ballard) Haynes traveled west probably sometime before 1880. Settling in Seattle, WA, her father, brothers, mother, and a sister died there: brother, Charles Drake, 1892, father, 1893; brother, James Clay, 1897; mother, Susan, 1918; and sister, Katie G. Morgan, 1940. Mother Susan Ballard died in Seattle, WA, 22 Apr 1918. There was no mention in her obituary of the granddaughter in MO: Mary Geneva (Haynes) Hefele.

It's possible that Ida (Ballard) Haynes, daughter of Susan (Hensley) Ballard, was a descendant of Daniel Boone. Ida did not appear in the household with her parents on the 1860 census, but her place in the Ballard family was confirmed by a Ballard descendant.

The name of the Haynes' daughter, Mary Swank, was provided by Haynes family researcher Donna Crawley.
