UPDATE: The Long Cemetery in
Sevier County has been visited
by a researcher. Some of the
stones have and will be cleaned
and photographed. The cemetery is
now on private land.
There are some that appear to be for
the Long's. Many have been broken
and some are partially buried. It
will take time for the work to be
finished, and also when the weather
& time permits.
This is of Dec. 2012

Mary Haynes was the daughter of
William Haynes and wife, Elizabeth.
She was the wife of John Long 1
and they were the parents of
George Washington Long 1 and
we know Nancy and more than
likely others?

William Haynes left a Will,
naming his children, one
being Mary Haynes Long.

John
Frances
Elizabeth
William
Mildred
Henry

Whose these presents shall come,
Greeting. Know ye, That by virtue
of a Land Office Pittsylvania) Treasure
Warrant Number........
There is granted by the said Common-
wealth unto John Long and William
Maples a Certain Tract or parcel of
Land containing one hundred and
twenty Six Acres by Survey. 1794,
lying and being in the County of
Pittsylvania.

Mary's father's Will information:
In William's Will, he list Elizabeth
Saunders, the oldest daughter of Stephen
Saunders and Mildred his wife. Elizabeth
being William's granddaughter, as Mildred
was his daughter and Stephen was his
son-in-law.

"John Long, batchelor and Mary Haynes, Spinster,
August 3, 1772, Stephens Saunders, Surety
Consent of Mary herself." So reads a marriage
Bond from Bedford Co., Va. 1775-1800.
NOTE: The Long family has a copy of
the marriage license.

William's Will is found in the Bedford County
Will Book.
William Haynes was born circa 1710, married
Elizabeth ? circa 1734. Died Bedford
County Virginia 1781.
William Haynes had been a private in the
Bedford County Militia in 1758. He
probably removed to Bedford Co., from
Pittsylvania County as on Novemeber 25, 1768
and August 5, 1770, William Haynes of Bedford Co.,
conveyed to William Hill and William Sawanson
respectively, land in Pittsylvania County. He
served in Lee's Legion, for which he was awarded
100 acres (Gwathmey, Historical Register of
Virginians in the Revolution) His commander was
Colonel Henry Lee. This regiment served in
the South w/Genreal Greene. There is a Bedford
Co., Records Public Service Claim to
William Haynes for a 380 pound beef steer.
William Haynes signed the Oath of Allegiance
in Bedford County, October 10th, 1777.
