William Dale "Bill" Crain

William D. "Bill" Crain, 81, of rural Chetopa, passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Medicalodge, of Columbus.
Bill was born Sept. 14, 1928, in Cherokee County, Kan., the son of Myrl Benjamin and Viola Mae (Shutt) Crain.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He married Melba Owen Dec. 30, 1953.
Bill farmed south of Hallowell, Kan., until 2008.
He married Josephine Burton on Feb. 7, 1980.
Member of the Keith Reeves American Legion Post No. 3 and the Columbus Saddle Club. Bill was an avid coyote hunter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Dale Eugene Crain and wife, Deborah; grandchildren, Travis Myrl and Gail Ann.
Survived by his wife, Josephine, of Columbus; two daughters, Janie Ruddick and husband, David, of Columbus, and Jeanne Johnson and husband, Randy, of West Mineral; four grandchildren, James Dale Johnson, of rural Chetopa, Jathan Hall, of Columbus, Jared Hall, of rural Chetopa, and Angelina Puckett and husband, Brian, of Wichita; stepson, Clyde Lee Burton, of Columbus; two step-grandchildren, Justin Burton and Darcy Burton, of Columbus; one brother, James Crain and Franci, of Bartlesville, Okla.; two sisters, Betty McGowan, of Grove, Okla., and Francis Ann "Sally" LaForte and Robert, of Pearland, Texas.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, in the Murdock Chapel with Rev. Wayne Lofton and Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating.
Interment will follow in the Park Cemetery, Columbus.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials may be made to: "Leber Congenital Amaurosis (Blind) Foundation" with the Murdock Funeral Home 132 East Pine, Columbus, KS 66725 serving as custodian.
