Betty was born on November 16, 1933, in Cherokee County, Kansas. She graduated high school in 1951 from Columbus, Kansas. Betty married George J. McGowan in 1951. Betty and three sons followed George’s twenty-year career in the U.S. Navy. After retiring from the Navy in 1966, the family lived in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She and George moved to Grove, Oklahoma in 1985, where Betty lived until December, 2013. She had been under assisted healthcare in Tulsa, Oklahoma for the past six years. Betty loved cooking, entertaining, music, dancing and playing bridge. Her home was always filled with family and friends which she welcomed with open arms.
Betty was preceded in death by her devoted husband, George; parents, Myrl and Viola Crain; two brothers, Bill Crain and Jim Crain; sister, Frances (Sally) LaForte; and special friend Perry Don Hutcheson.
Survivors include three sons Danny (wife, Patricia), David (wife, Barbara), Douglas (wife, Lori); five grandchildren Monica Culver (husband,Tom), Michael McGowan, Patrick McGowan, John Perkins (wife, Erica), Brian Perkins and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by Roger, Rex (wife, Susan), and Randy (wife, Christie) Hutcheson.
The family wishes to sincerely thank all caregivers for the excellent care and concern shown toward our beloved mother in the past six years; especially the care staff at the Country Club of Woodland Hills Residential Care, Saint Simeon’s Episcopal Health Center, and St. Francis Hospice.
