Kay Arlene Smith, loving wife, mother and grandmother, joined the Lord on December 7, 2007. A lifelong resident of Waterville, Kay was born on January 4, 1935, to Robert and Annie Reid; she was one of seven children. She graduated from Waterville High School in 1953. Kay married Jim Smith on December 13, 1958. They had three daughters, Candice, Deidra and Kamela; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She worked at Mitchell's Pharmacy for 35 years, retiring in 2006. She had also worked for the Grange Supply and was the bookkeeper for Jim's trucking business. Kay cherished every moment with her family. She enjoyed traveling with Jim and she loved watching her grandkids' many activities. She was very active in both the Rebekahs and Eastern Stars. She was a member of Eastern Stars for 35 years, served as Worthy Matron of the Waterville Chapter three times and was Worthy Grand Matron of the Washington State Grand Chapter in 1986-1987. She was a 55-year Rebekah member and served as Noble Grand of the Waterville Chapter three times. Kay was an avid bowler and an ardent supporter of Waterville Shocker sports teams. Kay is survived by her husband, Jim; her daughters, Candice and her husband, Randy Pfluger, Deidra and her husband, Roland Gutierrez and Kamela and her husband, Tony Matiatos; two grandsons, Robert and Thomas; four granddaughters, Michael, Christina, Jacqueline and Nicole; one great-grandson, Austin; two step-grandchildren, Andrew and Catherine Gutierrez; her twin sister, Fay Holland; sisters, Doris Andrews and Alice Zones; brothers, Ralph Reid and Carroll Reid; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Helen Ramin and Verna Hyman. She was loved by all who knew her and will be deeply missed. A Memorial Service will be held at the Federated Church in Waterville on December 21, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Dan and Sheila Miranda officiating. A Memorial Service by the Eastern Stars will also be performed. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Kay's name to the Susan G. Komen For The Cure Organization. Arrangements are by Waterville Funeral Home.
