Ralph E. Reid

February 1, 1919 ~ July 7, 2013

Ralph E. Reid, age 94, was born February 1, 1919, near Gettysburg, PA. He passed away July 7, 2013, in East Wenatchee, WA. He moved west in 1923 with parents, Robert and Anne Reid; Ralph settled with his family on Badger Mountain. Two years later, he relocated to Waterville and lived for 83 years, until declining health forced a move to Wenatchee, where he lived his last five years. Ralph graduated from Waterville School in 1939. He signed up for Military Service on Monday, December 8, 1941. He served in the Third Infantry Division under General Dwight D. Eisenhower. His tour saw action in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. He was honorably discharged in June of 1945, with a rank of Staff Sergeant. Returning to Waterville after World War II, he held many jobs; school bus driver, mobile oil distributor, working in his father's machine shop, Chief of Police of the Town of Waterville, finally retiring from Van Doren Sales in 1983. He married Alice (Overland) Reid on November 25, 1955. In March of 1963, son, Ralph Jr., joined their family. The family grew again in 1985, when Maryann joined the Reid's. The arrival of Robert in 1990, and Michelle in 1992, added more branches to the family tree. Ralph was a member of the United Lutheran Church in Waterville, a Life Member of the National Skeet Shooting Association, Life Member of the Wenatchee Bowling Association, Sons of Norway, and Society of the Third Infantry Division.

Ralph was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; his parents, Robert and Anne Reid; and sisters, Helen Ramin, Verna Hyman, Doris Andrew and Kay Smith. Survivors are his brother, Carroll Reid of Port Angeles; sisters, Fay Bowers Holland of East Wenatchee, and Alice Zones of Waterville; son, Ralph Jr. and daughter-in-law, Maryann of East Wenatchee; and grandchildren, Robert "Robbie" Reid of Woodinville and Michelle "Shelly" Reid of Pullman. Also, many nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank Dr. Rutherford, Traci Carter, PA, the staff at Blossom Valley and Columbia View Terrace for the GREAT care over the years. Super BIG hugs and thanks to Maria and Sharon, you are such special ladies. Also, all the caring people of Hospice and Pastor Jim, who helped us through a difficult time.
