Judith Amanda Lacy Mayes was born November 5, 1848 to James and Elizabeth Reed Lacy, in Mason county, Kentucky. Her parents died in 1851 and she and her sister, Anna Louisa, was raised by their grandmother, Nancy Anne Leake Lacy. Nancy moved the family to Tarrant county, Texas by 1855. I believe that they came to Texas with the Crowleys and Jones, which were family members and some of her sons and stepsons.
Judith married William Walter Mayes, a 2nd cousin, July 21, 1870 in Dallas county, Texas shortly after Nancy's death. Her sister, Anna married William's brother, Robert K. Mayes in 1863. They all lived in Dallas county and Tarrant county until 1875 when they moved to Young county where they had farms next to each other.
Nancy is on the 1920 census in Megargel, Archer county, next door to her daughter and son-in-law. She died June 22, 1921.
