Ann Louisa Lacy Mayes was born September 15, 1846 to James and Elizabeth Reed Lacy, in Mason county, Kentucky. Her parents died in 1851 and she and her sister, Judith Amanda, was raised by their grandmother, Nancy Anne Leake Lacy. Nancy moved the family to Tarrant county, Texas by 1855. I believe that they came to Texas with the Crowleys and Jones, which were family members and some of her sons and stepsons.

Ann married Robert K. Mayes, a 2nd cousin, November 15, 1863 in Tarrant county, Texas. Her sister, Judith married William Mayes, Robert's brother shortly after Nancy's death. They all lived in Dallas county and Tarrant county until 1875 when they moved to Young county where they had farms next to each other.

Mrs. R.K. Mayes (Anna) died at her home near Murray last Saturday, 13 January 1912. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church and was buried at the Tyra cemetery.

Survived by five sons; three daughters; an aged husband.
