Union Civil War Navy Veteran. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of Samuel J. and Frances Farmer Browne. His mother died when he was 4 weeks old. During the Civil War he served in the U.S. Navy. After the war he returned to Ohio and married Fanny E. Bassett. Browne later died at his residence in Columbus, Ohio in 1930 when he was 92 years old. His brother, Henry R. Browne, also served with the U.S. Navy during the Civil War and was killed in the explosion on the U.S.S. Mound City in 1862.
