SPRINGFIELD - Rolland G. Boesdorfer, 84, formerly of Pleasant Plains, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Bickford House in Springfield, IL.

Rolland was born Aug. 13, 1925, near Salisbury, Illinois, to George and Helena Boesdorfer.

After graduating from Pleasant Plains High School, he served his country during WWII as a member of the Merchant Marine.

Mr. Boesdorfer married Berneice Mileur in Springfield on Aug. 23, 1948.

While farming, he was a co-founder of Brandt's Fertilizer in 1953 and began Boesdorfer Trucking Inc. in 1955. He served on the Central Illinois Advisory Board for Mid-West Truckers Association, of which he was a founding and lifetime member since 1961.

Rolland was a volunteer firefighter with the Pleasant Plains Fire Department for many years.

He oversaw a significant upgrade of the public water supply while serving as mayor of Pleasant Plains from 1971 to 1981 after serving numerous terms as village trustee.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Pleasant Plains where he served as elder and congregation chairman.

Rolland was a co-owner of Springfield Plastics, Midstate Warehouse and MBD, Inc.

He was inducted into the Pleasant Plains High School Wall of Fame in 2006.

Rolland was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Norman, Walter and Elmer, and is survived by his wife, Berneice; a daughter, Debbie (John) Greene of Springfield; son, Dennis (Monica) Boesdorfer of Springfield; four grandchildren, Michael (Dana) Greene of Edwardsville, Brent (Kendra) Boesdorfer of Springfield, Jamie (Ryan) Murphy of Chatham and Lisa Greene of Houston, TX; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Roy (Jo) of Pleasant Plains and Clarence of Springfield; and several cousins, nieces, nephews and longtime friends.

Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Pleasant Plains. Services will be there Saturday, Oct. 24, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or the Pleasant Plains Historical Society (Clayville Restoration Project).
