Betty Jean King, 81, died Thursday afternoon (October 8, 2015) at her residence following an extended illness.

She was a native of Pierce County but had lived all of her life in Ware County. She was the wife of the late William Jerome King and the daughter of the late Hiram Prester Davis and Ida Jeanette Crews Davis. She was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Cleo Gunter and Julia Griffin, and a brother Gilbert C. Davis.

She retired as a seamstress in 1990 from Matt's Jacket after 20 years of service. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, and the Red Hat Society. Mrs. King will be remembered for her love of everyone and that she would rather give than to receive. She loved having a good time and laughter.

Survivors include 3 daughters, Virginia Bennett of Waycross, Diane Corbett (husband Jerry) of Waycross, and Joann Joyce (husband Daniel W.) of Blackshear; 5 grandchildren, Matthew Corbett, Beth Mixon, Joey Mixon, Derek Joyce, and Dalton Joyce; 2 great grandsons, Isaac Corbett and Eli Corbett, a great great grandson, Dagan Lane Joyce, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives, and 2 very special friends, Evelyn Shubert and Shirley Connell.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Reddy, Dr. Srinagesh, and the Cancer Doctors and team of Mayo Clinic Health System at Waycross for their care and concern in caring for their mother.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday (October 12, 2015) at Music Funeral Home Chapel. A private burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at 1710 Hood St. Waycross, GA.
