Mr. J. L. Venable died in Athens Monday, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Beulah Hood. Last year he had a stroke of paralysis, and for days his life was despaired of, but he partly recovered from the stroke. Not long since, however, he suffered another stroke, and all hopes of his recovery were abandoned after this. His remains were brought to Jefferson Monday afternoon, and interred in Woodbine Cemetery. The funeral obsequies were conducted by Revs. R. S. McGarity and R. N. Abraham.
He leaves a wife and three children to mourn his death. His daughters are Mrs. T. R. Gaines of South Carolina, Mrs. Beulah Hood, of Athens, and Mrs. Bruce Bryant of South Carolina, all of whom were with him at his death, and accompanied his remains to the tomb. He leaves the following brothers and sisters to mourn his death: Mr. Arch Venable, of Nicholson; Mr. J. M. Venable, of Nicholson; Mr. R. Venable, of Jefferson; Rev. W. E. Venable, of Atlanta; Mrs. Jack Bowers, of Nicholson; Mr. D. Venable of Jefferson; Mr. Wesley Venable and Mr. H. M. Venable, of Jefferson; Mrs. Walter McDaniel, of Jefferson; and Mrs. Lizzie Wood of Atlanta.
He was sixty-two years old. He was a member of the Methodist church. Mr. Venable was a quiet and peaceable citizen, who attended to his own affairs, and did not interfere with the business of other people. He had many friends in this county, who mourn his demise.
