C.H. (Bud) Townsend, 79, longtime merchant and justice of the peace at Chicota, died Thursday at 2:10 p.m. at St. Joseph's Hospital here, where he had been a patient much of the time since last June. His wife's death occurred, not quite three weeks ago, on Jan 13.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Chicota Baptist Church, where Mr. Townsend was a member and sang in the choir, Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home will make interment in nearby Forest Chapel Cemetery.

Born at Forest Chapel, 21 Dec 1883, Mr. Townsend was a son of H.F. and Eugenia (Herring) Townsend. He attended schools in the community, and for many years operated a general mercantile business, also serving as Precinct 3 justice of the peace.

He was a member of Garretts Bluff Masonic Lodge No. 860, and was active in all community affairs. His late wife was the former Miss Ora [Fredonia] White, whom he married 12 Aug 1906.

Surviving are these children: Cedric Townsend, Mrs. Howard Annett and Mrs. Henry Price, all of Paris and Mrs. J.W. Caldwell, Sumner; 16 other descendants, and a brother, Fate Townsend, Forest Chapel.

Tombstone is inscribed, 'C.H. Townsend.'
