Emily was the 6th child of William C. and Betsey R. Bailey. She was born on September 27, 1857 in Somerset, Vermont. Emily lived on the family farm located on the Bailey Road in Somerset, Vermont. She survived the diphtheria epidemic that swept through Somerset in 1863. As a result of the epidemic, she and her family temporarily removed to Montague City, Massachusetts, and lived there together with her oldest sister, Betsey I Curtis, and her family. Emily and her family returned to the Somerset farm to live sometime before 1870. Emily married Charles Nelson Hibbard on March 12, 1885 in Somerset, Vermont. She died in Somerset January 8, 1890, the day after her son Charles W Hibbard was born.
