Mila was the 2nd child of William C. and Betsey R. Bailey of Somerset, VT. She had married and moved away from the family farm before the Somerset diphtheria epidemic in the Fall of 1863. She lost two brothers and a sister to diphtheria during that epidemic. Mila Smith's only child was Harry O. Smith. Mila Smith occupation is recorded as "Housewife".
