William J. Paulson was the first husband of Ida May Gibbons and the father of her three children, Irene, William, and Marian Paulson. He was born in Massachusetts of Danish parents according to the 1930 Census. His mother-in-law Rose Gibbons was helping with his children while his wife was absent in 1930. William and Ida must have divorced before 1932, when she married Carl Emerick Carlson. The children were remanded to the custody of the state of Massachusetts, before 1934, when their grandmother received news from the state on the children's progress. After Rose died in 1944, young William reportedly lost his will to live and died three years later. William J. Paulson reportedly died in 1957 and was buried in Granville, Massachusetts.
