Former Funeral Director, Hiram J. Brown, 88, Dies.

Hiram J. Brown, 88, of Warren died at 7:25 p.m. Saturday at Meadowvale Care Center, where he had been a resident since 1987.

A lifelong resident of Warren, he was associated with his nephew, George A. Bergman, in the operation of the H. Brown and Son Funeral Home at Warren until his retirement in 1987. Mr. Brown, a 1922 graduate of Warren High School, was a member of the Warren United Methodist Church, King Masonic Lodge at Warren, Scottish Rite Valley of Fort Wayne, Indiana Funeral Directors Association, Warren Chamber of Commerce and Warren Sportsman's Club.

He was the town of Warren historian and had received the Sagamore of the Wabash award from former Gov. Robert Orr. Born May 2, 1903 in Warren, he was a son of Ira F. and Mary A. Jones Brown.

Surviving are another nephew, Bruce Brown of Indianapolis, and a niece, Mrs. Charles (Betty Lou) Harvey of Klondike, Ind.

Calling will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the H. Brown and Son Funeral Home, where services will be a 2 p.m. Wednesday. Rev. Steven Haiflich and Rev. Jim Farrer will officiate. A horse-drawn hearse will transport the body to the Woodlawn Cemetery at Warren, where burial will be.

The family has suggested memorials to the donor's favorite charity.

Services for Hiram J. Brown were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at H. Brown and Son Funeral Home, Warren with Rev. Steven Haiflich and Rev. Jim Farrer officiating.

Pallbearers were Gene Gilmer, Vier Ash, Merrill Hethcote, Clyde Snow, Bob Heaston and Bob Shideler. Honorary pallbearers were Art Krumdick, Bud Larr, F. Emerson Couch, Mick Gilbert, J. Ben Good, Loren Thurman and Don D. Blatchley.

Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Warren.
