Obituary The death occurred at his home in Woodville yesterday morning of Mr David Hughes. The deceased was 86 years of age and was one of the early settlers of the district. He commenced farming in Woodville in 1876 after filling the position of inspector of works of the Ballance bridge during its course of construction. The late Mr Hughes was for some time chairman of the Woodville County Council and was also an active member of the Woodville A. and P. Association. He retired from farming and took up his residence within the borough after the death of his wife some ten years ago.
The deceased leaves a daughter and three sons, Miss E. Hughes (Woodville), Messrs A. Hughes (Matangi), E. Hughes (Waipukarau) and W. Hughes (Woodville).
