Obituary: St. George, Utah - Ruth LaVon Kelsey Chew, age 75, was born April 8, 1933, in Logan, Utah, the 12th of 14 siblings to Willis Roy Kelsey and Mae Moody. She married Randall T. Chew III on Dec. 7, 1974, in Covina, Calif.

Ruth was raised in Cache Valley, Utah. She lived in Utah, California, Colorado and West Virginia. She served with her husband in LDS missions in the Marshall Islands from 1994 to 1996 and Birmingham, Ala., from 1999 to 2000.

She was a medical secretary and transcribed patriarchal blessings for many years. She loved music, dolls, writing poetry, decorating doll houses and traveling.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Randall; daughter, Rebecca; and son, Mark.

She is survived by her children: Robyn Ott, Nancy Pfaffl, Stephanie Vallez, Scott Chew, Randall Thorton Chew IV, Lindsey J. Chew, Clivedon M. Haas and Marsden E. MacCrae; her siblings: Alice Bevan, Connie Smith, Garth Kelsey, Donna Chavez and Claire Kelsey; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 19, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 W. St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. Visitation will be Thursday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the chapel, prior to services. Interment will be Friday, March 20, 2009, at 3 p.m. at the Smithfield City Cemetery.
