Henry Edward Adams, 85, died at Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems in Hayti on Saturday, December 18, 1999. He was born on April 7, 1914 in Grandchan, Ill., the son of the late Mr. Henry John Adams and Clara McIntyre.
On September 29, 1942, at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, Adams enlisted in the United States Army. He served overseas for 23 months in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of Operations during World War II and was in charge of routing and dispatching trucks at a loading depot. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, a lapel button, and three overseas bars before being discharged from the U.S. Army at Jefferson Barracks on November 27, 1945.
On April 5, 1952, in Piggott, Ark., Adams was united in marriage to Alma Mae Stanfill. He was a concrete mason until his retirement in 1985, a member of the American Legion Post Number 88, the Bootheel Saddle Club and the IOOF.
Adams was preceded in death by one son, Raymond Cole; two brothers, Clyde Adams and Raymond Adams; and one sister, Helen Hicks.
Survivors include his wife, Alma Adams of Hayti; one son, Edward E. Adams of St. Louis; one daughter, Sue Cole Bess of Caruthersville; one brother J.D. Adams of Redman, Calif.; one niece, Joyce Sands of Caruthersville; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many other friends and relatives.
Services were held Monday, December 20, 1999 2 p.m., in the H.S. Smith Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Dr. Rick Broadway officiating. Interment was in Little Prairie Cemetery.
