CURLEW MAN CENTENARIAN IS CALLED
James McCreary, Formerly of Curlew, Passed Away at Home of His Son, Andrew at Cedar Falls. Burial in Rush Lake Cemetery.

Of Age. He Lived Through 22 Different Presidential Campaigns. Leaves Five Sons and One Daughter to Mourn His Loss.
Curlew, Iowa, Dec. 28
James McCreary passed away Wednesday of last week at 1:30 a.m., at the home of his son Andrew McCreary of Cedar Falls. The funeral was held Monday. Services were conducted at this place, Rev. Bounds, Methodist pastor officiating. Interment was made in Rush Lake cemetery at this place. The pall bearers were his three sons, Hugh, Andrew and James, his son-in-law, A. A. Whitmer and two grandsons, Ward and Rex McCreary.
James McCreary was born in Guernsey county, Ohio, July 11, 1830. There he grew to manhood. Later he moved to Illinois and then to this county, residing here from 1886 to 1922. He was united in matrimony in 1852 to Harriet Talbert. Mrs. McCreary died several years ago. Mr. and Mrs. McCreary made their home with their daughter, Mrs. A. A. Whitmer of this place for a number of years. Mrs. Witmer died in 1922. In 1922 Mr. McCreary went to Waterloo where he made his home with his son Andrew. Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. McCreary, two died in infancy, and one son Charles and one daughter, Mrs. A. A. Whitmer passed away about ten years ago. The surviving members are Mrs. Belle Tedrick of Oklahoma, D. W. of West Bend, Hugh of Perry, A. N. of Cedar Falls, James of Malta, Montana, and Ed of Portland, Oregon. There are also 26 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren.
Mr. McCreary was a quiet, home loving man. He never appeared to be rugged but lived to be 102 years, 5 months and 10 days old. He had a bright, active mind and loved to talk about the events of the day. He never missed going to the polls to cast his vote. He was a staunch republican all his life but this year he voted the democratic ticket. He had the experience of seeing 20 different presidential campaigns waged on political issues varying from slavery and tariff to prohibition. He tried to enlist during the Civil war but was refused because of not being able to pass the physical examination. He, however, lived to see most of the Civil war vets buried. The McCreary family lived in this vicinity for a number of years. They were always the best of citizens. The deceased was well liked by all who knew him. The surviving members have the sympathy of all in their bereavement.
