West Bend Pioneer Died Saturday

D. W. MCCREARY PASSED AWAY SATURDAY. FUNERAL TUESDAY

D. W. McCreary, who had been in a critical condition for some time, passed away at his home in West Bend Saturday evening. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon. Services were held in the M. E. church, the Rev. Whitford officiating. Burial was in the local cemetery.

David McCreary, son of James and Harriet McCreary, was born in Carthage, Illinois, Februray 28, 1855. He was 80 years of age at the time of his passing. In 1868 the family moved to Ringgold county, Iowa, and in 1882 Mr. McCreary came to Palo Alto county.

Mr. McCreary made his home in Palo Alto county since that -time with the exception of eighteen years spent near Washta and Anthon. He was married November 6, 1887 to Miss M. Zaidie Richards of Curlew. To this union five children were born, the youngest passing away April 8, 1918.

The McCrearys moved to town in 1927. Surviving are his widow, the four children, Clyde of Dodge City, Minnesota, Mrs. Claude Phelps of Emmetsburg, Mrs. John Phelps of Slayton, Minnesota, and Garth of Winnebago, Minnesota, and four brothers, Hugh of Perry, Andrew of Cedar Falls, Jas, of Malta, Montana and Edgar of Seattle, Washington.

Mr. McCreary was a fine type of an old gentleman. He was highly respected -by all who knew him for his square dealings and neighborliness. He was a kind and loving husband and father. His passing Is sincerely regretted by the people of this community. Heartfelt sympathy is extended to the bereft relatives.****
