Graveside services for W.C. "Rosie" Deaton, 90, of Matador will be at 10 a.m. today in the Roaring Springs Cemetery with Michael Crowley officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Seigler Funeral Home of Matador.

He died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001.

He was born Oct. 3, 1910, in Proctor and moved to Guthrie in 1913. He graduated from high school in Dickens and was the last surviving member of the first football team at Dickens High School.

He married Valta Nipp on Jan. 30, 1967, in Matador. He had worked as a cowboy on a number of area ranches, including the Pitchfork, Triangle and Matador ranches. He was a World War II veteran and a member of First Baptist Church in Matador.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Jack Williams of Matador; a daughter, Dorothy Lester of Matador; a brother, Wendell of San Marcos; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
