Obituary

David Michael Boyer was born on a farm near Mount Vernon, Iowa, Jan. 23, 1859, where he lived with his Mother until 1870, his Father having enlisted in the Army and died in 1862. In 1870 Mr. Boyer and his Mother moved to Washington Co., Iowa, near Daytonville, where they lived until 1876. His Mother having married again, the family moved to Washington County, Kans., near Linn, Kans., where he has made his home ever since.

July 2, 1888, he was married to Minnie Reed, to which union was born eight children, four boys and four girls, seven of whom survive, one boy having died in infancy. The surviving children are Francis of Wetmore, Kans.; Elmer of Palmer, Kans.; Lula of Chicago; Arthur of Topeka; Mrs. Eva Simmons of Agenda, Kans.; Mrs. Ina McAtee of Eula, Ore.; and Esther of Linn, Kans.

On account of financial circumstances he was able to attend school very little, but having a desired for an education, he studied at home, and being a great reader, enabled himself to qualify for a teacher. He taught school in Washington Co. for eighteen years with considerable success, working at various other things during vacations.

The last years of his life were spent on a farm west of Linn. He was converted and joined the M.E. Church in 1878. Being much interested in religious affairs, he spent much time in Church and Sunday School work, having held a Preacher's license for a number of years, and held the Office of County President of the Sunday School Association which required his working in Washington and adjacent Counties. He was a teacher of the Bible Class almost constantly for more than thirty years.

He departed this life March 25, 1922, at the age of 63 years, 2 months and 2 days, and leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, and children, two grandchildren, two brothers, three sisters and a host of friends.

The last year of life he was a great sufferer. All that physicians and loving hands could do, were done, but to no avail. He expressed his willingness to go, and was happy in the thought of an eternity spent with his Christ. His last few weeks were a benediction to his many friends and the family.

Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church in Linn, Kansas, Monday, March 27, 1922, at 2 p.m. and interment was made in the family lot in Linn Cemetery.
