In 1917, Bertha started an ice cream parlor from home, using her own recipe. The business became known as Becher's Ice Cream Parlor, and was located at 213 Elm Street in Stratford. Bertha and Ed ran the parlor from 1917 to 1949.
Ed and Bertha celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1965.
Ed died in 1970 and Bertha died in 1984.
