CALLENDER - Robert D. Lane, age 78, died Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at the Gowrie Care Center.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Callender, with Pastor Kent Wallace officiating. Burial will be in the Callender Cemetery with military rites by Albert J. Hanson American Legion Post #592 of Callender and American Legion Peterson Post #431 of Gowrie. Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Thursday (today) at the Palmer Funeral Home in Gowrie.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Ann Lane of Callender; daughters, Susan Anderson and her husband, Greg of Gowrie; Nancy Burger and her husband, Alan of Gowrie, and Jeannie Streit and her husband, Karl of Ames; son, Kevin Lane of Callender; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Tillie (Christensen) Lane; brothers, Charlie Lane, Verlyn Lane, and Marvin Lane; sisters, Ruth Houdeshell, Marjorie Houdeshell, Evelyn Seil and Marcella Lane.

Robert D. Lane was born on February 17, 1931 in Lake City and graduated from the Lorhville High School in 1948. He served in the U.S., Navy during the Korean War. Robert was united in marriage with Betty Ann Burk on November 12, 1950 at Lake City. The couple established their home in Callender. Robert worked for S. Hanson Lumber Company, later known as Farm & Town Lumber Company, for more than forty years. He was the manager of Farm & Town Lumber, until retiring in 1999.

Robert was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, served as mayor of Callender for more than twenty years, a member of Albert J Hanson American Legion Post #592 of Callender and V.F.W. of Lohrville, Ft. Dodge Rotary Club, Lions Club, Ft. Dodge Home Builders, and Ft. Dodge Museum Board.

Memorials may be left at the discretion of the family.
