Services for Thelma Dabbs, 94, of Southland will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009 in Englunds Chapel with Paul Ray Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Southland's Resthaven Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Thelma was born on Nov. 1, 1914 in Taylor County. She passed from this life on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009. Her family moved to Lynn County in 1922. Thelma attended school at Hackberry and graduated from Southland High School in 1933. She married Herman R. Dabbs on March 17, 1934. Herman preceded her in death on May 11, 1978. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Her parents, Samuel and Alice (Forbis) Martin, preceded her in death as have brothers, Blanton and Jack.
She is survived by her children, Col. Travis Dabbs of San Antonio, Dr. Gerald Dabbs of New York City and Charleston, S.C., David Dabbs of Santa Fe, N.M. and Brenda Dabbs Hartke of Prescott, Ariz.; brother, Harley Martin of Slaton; and sister, Mary Alice Underwood of Pleasanton, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
