Ercil J. Craven, 94, the son of L.W. and Margaret (Burgess) Craven, was born June 25, 1907, at Northbranch. He died Dec. 10 at the Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County hospital in Superior.

He graduated from the Northbranch Academy in 1926, and then completed his formal education at the Salina Business College. On Nov. 8, 1929, he married Lorene E. Dow at her parents home west of Northbranch. They farmed for a number of years. In 1948, he was called to the ministry and began his career with the Oak Creek Church. He pastored churches in Kansas, Oklahoma and Iowa. In 1973, he retired from the Friends Church at Buffalo, Iowa. They moved to Denver and lived until 1982, when they moved to Burr Oak. In June 1999, they moved to Superior.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother Erden Craven; and a grandson.

Survivors include his wife, Lorene, Superior; daughter, Mrs. Leslie Warner (Lona), Burr Oak; a son, Orral Dean Craven Aurora Colo.; four grandsons; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Estal Neir, Buhler, Kan.; and Eilene Payne, Texarkana, Texas.

Services were held Thursday from the Nazarene Church in Superior with Pastor Denis Payne and Jon Albrecht officiating.

Interment was in the Oak Creek Cemetery, Jewell County. The Simonsen-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud was in charge of arrangements.
