Virgil A. Alford, age 84, of Palestine, Texas died Sep. 9, 2009, at Palestine Regional Medical Center. He was born March 25, 1925, in Palestine, the son of the late George Alfred Alford and Lottie Rogers Alford. Mr. Alford was a retired machinist and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Slocum Union Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rheda Mae Denson Alford; and brother, Adrian Alford. Mr. Alford is survived by his daughter, Mary Alford Cohrs and husband Frelynn; son, David Wayne Alford and wife Karen; sisters, Anita Lois Wylie, and Eurita Rieger; grandson, Jeremy Alford and wife Rebecca; and two great-grandchildren. Burial in Strong's Memorial Park Cemetery is under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
