Raymond Henry Beeson was born July 3, 1917, in Correctionville, the son of J. Henry and Lottie (Pierce) Beeson. He married Verda Hansen August 29, 1938, in Elk Point, South Dakota. The couple farmed in the Correctionville and Anthon area. They retired from farming in 1991 and moved into Lawton. For 11 years, he also worked as the Woodbury County weed commissioner. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. It was obvious that he enjoyed his life's work in farming, but he also found pleasure in the many years he and Verda traveled. He appreciated the time he found to play cards and was known to often be heard whistling. However, the greatest joy in his life was found in his family, especially his grandchildren. Ray died September 11, 2002, at Correctionville, Iowa, at the age of 85. Services were held at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Sioux City with Rev. John H. Hagberg officiating and Beverly Wolff, minister of Family Life, assisting. Graveside services were held at noon in the Correctionville Cemetery under direction of Armstrong Funeral Service of Anthon. Survivors include Verda, his wife of 64 years; two sons, Larry (Mary) Lou Beeson of Wisner, Nebraska, and Gary (Linda) Beeson of Anthon; two daughters and their husbands, Mrs. Jerry (Barbara) Martin of Marcus, Iowa, and Mrs. Gary (Connie) Edwards of Kansas City, Missouri; ten grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mamie Hobbs of Kingsley, Iowa, and Mrs. Roy (Opal) Bremer of Holstein, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Lucille Beeson of Correctionville; and several other relatives, neighbors and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and a great-grandchild.
