EAST NEWARK GROCER DIES
Amzi A. Westbrook In Business for Half Century
Amzi Allen Westbrook, 69, East Newark grocer, died Friday at 9 p.m. in the home, 350 ½ East Main Street. He had been in failing health five years and critically ill since Wednesday.
Born Dec. 29, 1873 in Wilkins Corners, he was the son of Lemuel James and Eliza (Oatman) Westbrook. Three brothers and a sister survive: James L. Westbrook, Frank L. Westbrook, William E. Westbrook, and Mrs. Theodore Klecker, all of Newark.
Mr. Westbrook had been associated with the operation of the grocery business for 50 years. He was connected with the business operated by his father until his death in 1906 and then with his brother, William E. Westbrook, continued the business in East Main Street. After several years he took over the entire business which he had since operated.
He was a member of Newark Lodge, F & A.M., Knights of Pythias and the D.O.O.K.
The body will remain at the Gutliph & Henderson Funeral Home and services will be held there Tuesday at 1 p.m. conducted by Rev. David C. Johnson. Burial will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
