03 Oct 1889 – 26 Apr 1906
Guy Jones Westbrook, a popular young man of East Newark, died at the home of his father, L.J. Westbrook, the East Main Street grocer, 348 East Main Street Thursday afternoon after an illness dating back nearly a year. The cause of the young man's death was tuberculosis of the lungs. He had been confined to his home for about four months, but did not take to his bed until about three weeks before his death and death relieved his sufferings at 2:10 o'clock. As a student in the East Newark public schools, Guy won for himself the respect and admiration of both teacher and fellow students. He was unusually well informed for a youth of his years. He possessed a keen sense of observation and was of a studious disposition.
The young man was born in this city 16 years ago. In 1904 the deceased united with the East Main Street Methodist Episcopal Church, since which time he has been a faithful attendant upon various services, as long as his health would permit, especially the Sunday School, this being the last public place in which he was seen before his death.
The mother of the deceased preceded him to the other world June 5, 1902. He is survived by his grief stricken father, one brother, Nary and one sister, Inez: five half-brothers, Elza E., James L., Amzi A., Frank L., and William E. and one half-sister, Mrs. Theodore Klecker, all of this city.
The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Westbrook home, 348 East Main Street, at 2 o'clock conducted by his pastor, Rev. T.W.Locke of the East Main Street M.E. Church officiating. The interment was made at Cedar Hill cemetery.
The bereaved family hereby desire to express their profound appreciation of the numerous manifestations of sympathy on the part of neighbors and friends, in the time of their deep bereavement.
