William Anderson "Bill" Cook came to Yellow Creek with his family from Wayne County, TN in the 1850s. The Cooks of Wayne County were said to live in the Martin Mills area, which is near present day Lutts. His grandfather, John Cook, Sr., was an early settler in Wayne County in the 1820s, and is buried on a hill west of Weatherford Creek between Lutts and Olive Hill. There is a Cook Hollow nearby, but it is not known if there is a connection. John Cook, Jrs. name was found on a deed for the present day Warrington property on Indian Creek in the Houston area.

From old tax receipts, the Tishomingo County appraiser identified Bill's residence as being at the bottom of Pickwick Lake in the vicinity of Goat Island. We know from family stories that he lived right on the creek. His mail was postmarked "Salem".

It is said that Bill was a brick mason, as well as a Fraternal Mason. He was a Methodist preacher and had a third grade teaching certificate. We do not know much about his military service except he was conscripted in 1863, and said that he never shot at anyone.

Although the gravestone says "Sr.", there was no Jr. His two sons were Albert and James Napoleon. His wife Nancy is buried alongside, in the built-up area. The person Carr is buried at their feet.

Bill moved to Upshur County, Texas for a short while, then returned to Tishomingo County to live out the rest of his life.

A DNA match has linked this line of Cooks with a line in Kentucky, with a common ancester around 1800.
