Father Samuel Martin (1775 South Carolina - 1821 Wayne County, TN)
Mother Elizabeth, maiden name undocumented (1775 SC - 1835 Wayne, TN)
Brothers Nathaniel. John Henry, others not researched

Deborah's family, the family of Samuel Martin was one of the first white families to arrive in the future Wayne County in the Fall of 1816. They made their home on Indian Creek at Weatherford Fork, approximately next door to the John Cook family. Samuel Martin was at that location in the 1820 census, his widow Elizabeth Martin in the 1830 census, his son Nathaniel Martin in the 1840 census, and his grandson Samuel A Martin in the 1850 census. Samuel A was Nathaniel's son.
Samuel and Elizabeth Martin had more than nine children, all of them born in South Carolina. Elizabeth's maiden name is not known, since her name never appeared in any document with her husband. The name is often speculated.

Deborah Martin Cook's brother John Henry Martin was identified in the Clifton Mirror. Except for Nathaniel Martin, who occupied the home place, the names of the other children are not known.
Deborah Martin and John Cook Jr had the distinction of obtaining the first marriage license issued in Wayne County, TN in 1818. Deborah had twelve children, and lived to the age of 85.
The graves for Deborah and her husband John Cook, Jr have not been found, but are almost certain to be in Soules Chapel Cemetery, where they lived and where their children and grandchildren are buried. Her last known address was in 1880 living with her daughter Mary Terrell and her family, in Upshur County, TX.
