His surname was also spelled Sheerer (sic) in his period military service record. Albert Shearer was enrolled by Captain Thomas E. Ketcham and mustered in as a Drummer, Co. A, 3rd California Infantry, at Stockton, California, October 3, 1861. At enlistment he was described as age 19 years, that he was born at Nashua, New Hampshire, and that his occupation was a Farmer. He was reduced to the ranks from Musician April 30, 1864. Private Shearer mustered-out at Camp Douglas, Utah Territory, October 4, 1864.

Albert Shearer, age 37 years, was enumerated June 15, 1880, at Empire, Stanislaus County, California, with Della Shearer 25 and Lee W. Shearer 4.

Albert Shearer, age 58 years and a Farmer, was enumerated June 9, 1900, at Modesto, Stanislaus County, California, with Mattie Shearer 38 and Lee W. Shearer 24.

Pioneer Sheep Man Is Dead at Covina Home. Covina, July 21.-The widow of Albert Sheerer, pioneer sheep man, today is completing arrangements for his funeral. Shearer had immense ranches in Stanislaus County and was one of the great sheep raisers of the early fifties (sic). His death was caused by heart disease.
