Richards father, Merida Plumley, released from custody Monday morning after a hearing before Magistrate Virgil Lyons, told investigating officers that during a hunting party Friday, he, his two sons, and their cousin had been drinking.
Mason Plumley, the victim's cousin, has told officers that scratches on his face were caused when Richard pushed him over a hill during an argument while hunting.
Richards body was found Friday night at Glade. He had been shot in the back right rib section and had a deep cut on the back of the head. Investigating officers, suspecting foul play in Plumley's death, took the father; brother, Eugene; and cousin into custody for questioning.

Murder Count Faces Cousin of Victim
OAK HILL (RNS) - Mason Plumley, 50, of Meadow Creek, is scheduled to appear today before Magistrate Virgil Lyons for a preliminary hearing on a charge of
slaying his cousin, Richard Plumley, 29, of Meadow Creek, Nov. 12.
Also scheduled to appear on a charge of felonious assault is the brother of the dead man, Eugene, according to State Trooper Robert Lilly, an investigating officer.
Lilly said the cousin and brother held in the Fayette County Jail for questioning since Nov. 13, admit knowing that Richard had been shot before they organized a search party to find him.
Richard's body was found Nov. 19 by a searching party at Glade after he failed to return home with a hunting party consisting of Mason, Richard, Eugene and Merida Plumley, the dead man's father.
Eugene was arrested Saturday morning after Richard's body had been found. He had been shot in the back right rib section and had a deep cut on the back of his head.
Trooper Lilly claims that Mason Plumley has confessed the murder.
Mason broke four ribs in a fall. He asserts that, according to the officer, that Richard pushed him over a hill. His broken ribs made it impossible to cross the river by boat, which ordinarily would take two hours. He walked home after leaving a party which was searching for the missing man at Glade. He walked all night Friday and until 8 p. m.
Saturday.
