Born Wilhelm Heinrich Sudmeyer near Minden,Westfalia, Germany. As Wilhelm Sudmeier, age 9, he arrived at Ellis Island on February 8, 1901, on the ship TRAVE, from Bremen, along with brother Gus, and sisters Lena and Louise .

Husband of: (1) Elsie Elizabeth Hufnagel Suedmeyer.
Children: Robert William, and Elfriede Ida.

PORT PILOT DIES ON SHIP'S BRIDGE
William H. Suedmeyer, 59, of 926 Thirteenth St., a port pilot for Catalina Steamship Co., last night suddenly collapsed and died aboard the SS Colina. Catalina officials said he was on the bridge of the ship, piloting it through the west basin drawbridge when he suffered the attack. A fire department resuscitator squad worked over him for an hour before he was pronounced dead. The body was taken to Cleveland Mortuary. He was employed by the Catalina Co. for 21 years. He served in both World Wars as a chief in the navy. Born in Westphalia, Germany, he had resided here for about 30 years. Suedmeyer was vice president of the Masters, Mates and Pilots, Local 18, a member of the Elks and active in naval reserve work. He leaves his wife, Ethel, a son, Robert, of Gardena, and a daughter, Alfred (sic-Elfriede), of San Pedro. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
