Born in Minden, Westfalia, Germany.
Husband of: (1) Emma M. Reichmann Sudmeyer.
Children: Mathilde Sudmeyer Harris, and Paul.
Husband of: (2) Harriet Merrick Sudmeyer.
Son of: Heinrich Christian Sudmeyer and Caroline Wilhelmine Riechmann Sudmeyer.

He joined the German Army when still under age. His father found him and he was returned home. Later did re-join. Was a French prisoner of war after the World War I Armistice. Months after the end of the war, they were still prisoners. He and friend escaped from the prison camp and boarded a train for Germany. Was discovered and showed a Red Cross official a picture of his brother, William, who was in the US Navy. That official had coincidentally known William (as the family story goes) and arranged to have Louie and friend ride across the border with the engineer to get back home to Germany.

Immigrated to the U.S. about 1925 with wife, Emma, and daughter, Mathilde.

On June 7, 1968, Louie had a fatal heart attack in his vehicle with his German Shepherd dog with him. The dog wouldn't let anyone assist Louie until they were able to restrain the animal.
