Son of Dorothy Drake and Lewis Hanford. He MIGHT have been the James Hanford who married Elizabeth Smith in July 1822 (NY Eve Post). There is a tradition that he was killed when a steamboat blew up on the Mississippi along with his brother Caleb Hanford.
